Schultz Wins Mayor's Challenge

A jubilant Mayor John Schultz finally prevailed over Mayor John Minch of Berne in the third Mayor’s Challenge.  Schultz took the first event, fire starting with flint and steel to gain the lead.  Schultz also bested Minch in the atladle and the tomahawk throw.  The final event, the skillet toss sealed the Schultz victory as he out tossed Minch by ten feet.

Minch defeated Schultz in 2009 and 2010 and proudly displayed the tomahawk trophy in his office in Berne.  With this victory the trophy will come back to Decatur.  Mayor Minch will retire from office at the end of the year and Schultz will face a new opponent in 2012. 

The Chamber thanks both Mayors Minch and Schultz for being such good sports and opening the Kekionga Festival with a note of “friendly” competition.  Both men have displayed a spirit of cooperation that is a credit to the communities they serve.
